Work Based Learning

Financial Literacy

"We want to help young people find the spark that allows them to live a purposeful life."

There are ongoing supports, signature experiences, and special events that ALL students get to take part in across grades 6-12. Middle and high school are important opportunities to learn about yourself, identify interests, and try new experiences. Our goal is to leverage all these tools to earn a wage that puts them on track to raise a family in New York City.

Workplace Challenge

Also known as an industry-based project, this is a rich, work-based learning experience where students engage with professionals with the support of an educator.

Teams engage in research and critical thinking to solve the problem of an outside professional. Students identify their best solution for the client and ultimately present their findings to the outside client.

25-50 Hours per Project

Who Participates?

  • Grades 10-12: Quarterly workplace challenges.
  • Grade 9: All students participate during "Week Without Walls" in J-Term.
J-Term Activities

J-Term Experience

In the high school grades, J-Term is a unique opportunity to engage in CCL opportunities during the school day.

Across grades, the experiences are different but the goal is the same: We want all students to have rich learning opportunities that allow them to practice the skills they have learned in their course of study in a real-world context.

Innovation Expo

Mark Your Calendar: June 10, 2026

The first ever F&T Innovation Expo was a mega event with over 100 students across all 7 grade levels sharing projects completed throughout the year. From subject-specific projects to collaborations with outside partners, students served as hosts, audience, and evaluators. We can't wait for the next one!
